One Gallon Peter Herrmann Stoneware Pitcher

Circa 1850-1880: Standing 11" tall, this outstanding one gallon stoneware pitcher sports a pair of iconic Baltimore double flower and leaf decorations and was most likely potted by Peter Herrmann. Featuring extremely dark, vibrant, and highly contrasting cobalt decoration, this attractive pitcher has survived in completely as made condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs and only typical kiln related firing anomalies. Altough this decoration is typical of Herrmann's output, the pitcher's appealing coloration combined with its superlative condition makes it a desirable example of Mid-Atlantic salt glazed stoneware produced on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay. Provenance: Nancy Goff Collection
