Circa 1883: Designed by Louis Keyser and Alfred C. Rex and manufactured by Frankford, Pennsylvania's Keyser and Rex, the lion and monkeys mechanical bank presents a pair of treed monkeys feeding a hungry lion from just out of its deadly reach. There are two variations of this bank, the one with the shorter "single peanut" tree trunk and this longer so called "double peanut" tree trunk. This bank is all original, including the lions glass eyes and the usually replaced small cast iron monkey with brass arms, and has no chips, cracks, or repairs. The bank retains over 90% of its vibrant original paint with beautiful red and yellow highlights on the green base. This is a terrific example of one of the most popular mechanical banks ever made.
