Circa 2nd Quarter19th Century: Measuring a stout 19.5"L x 15"H x 9.5" deep, this early hanging salt box with a rare double tombstone back was found here in Virginia by storied Rockbridge County antiques dealer Dick Barnes of Old South Antiques and was purchased at Mr. Barnes' estate sale in his magnificent 18th century home in historic Brownsburg. The box is made completely of solid walnut with an old mellow refinish and features hand cut dovetail and square nail contruction, original hinged slant lids and interior divider to go along with the aforementioned double tombstone back. Condition is excellent with minor age related losses as photographed and a typical age crack in the bottom.
