Circa 1760-1780: This superb 18th century ash burl bowl boasts an honest untouched condition with period make do lead and staple repairs, a rich and complex dark original surface, and beautifully turned rim and pronounced foot. Measuring 7 7/8" tall and 19 1/2" in diameter, this large colonial or early American bowl of New York origin has survived 250 years without being refinished, its finely timeworn surface and ancient repairs a testament to its long use and the strength of the burlwood from which it was wrought. This is an incredible survivor. This is a bowl with soul. Provenance: Ex Steven S. Powers, author of North American Burl Treen: Colonial & Native American.
