Thomas Haig Six Gallon Lidded Water Cooler

Circa 1870: Measuring 17.25" tall including lid and 13" wide from handle to handle, this six gallon stoneware water cooler is the work of Philadelphia master potter Thomas Haig, Jr. Decorated on front and back with freehand cobalt flowers, the cooler retains its original decorated lid and, amazingly, has survived with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Like his main competitor Richard Remmey, Haig produced a wide variety of forms to satisfy his clientele, but this is the first Haig water cooler we have seen. This handsome and unusual piece of 19th century southeastern Pennsylvania stoneware in essentially as made condition is a rare find, and we're more than happy to offer it for sale on the open market.
