Fine 8 Color Art Deco Checkers Board

Circa 1933: Signed "By Henry J. Morrison Feb. 17, 1933," this gorgeous eight color 18" x 18" handmade folk art checkers gameboard features an unusual cut out shape with the initials "GWN" in the corner circles, most probably the monogram of the person to whom the board was gifted during mid February's valentine season. Constructed of thick early laminated plywood, this fancy checkerboard boasts a cookie cutter style border and abstract motifs popular in the art nouveau, arts and crafts, and art deco periods of the early 20th century. The board has the superb finely crazed surface that collectors covet and is in excellent condition with minor surface wear commensurate with age and use. It's obvious that Mr. Morrison took great pride in making this eye catching 8 color gameboard for someone he loved and that the recipient liked the prized board so much that it was kept in great shape and saw only minimal use.
