Southern Folk Art Sharecropper Dolls

Circa 1920s: Standing 7.5" tall, this beautifully rendered pair of hand-carved and polychromatic paint decorated sharecropper dolls is a real treat. These early 20th century museum quality dolls are of southern origin with carved heads, bodies, hands, and feet and stuffed upper arms. Their facial features are hand-painted, and they are dressed in period attire. Conditon is excellent with minor loss to the applied cotton hair. Additionally, these dolls come from Eleanor V. Lakin's personal collection and are illustrated on page 148 of Lakin's Folk Art for Children: Handmade in America 1760-1940.
