Paint Decorated Ludo Gameboard

Circa 1920s-1930s: This 17" x 17" hunter green and red wooden folk art Ludo board was fashioned from a single piece of early laminated pine. The anonymous maker drilled holes so that, like Chinese checkers, marbles could be used as game pieces, then applied a coat of dark green paint and added red pinstriped embellishments to complete the board. This is a fine example of an early 20th century homemade utilitarian gameboard with good original crazed paint, which is what we like to see. Found in rural Missouri, this board is more than likely of Midwestern origin and has a wonderfully graphic X shape that makes it both unusual and desirable to collectors of handmade antique gameboards.
