Painted Firkin in Old Barn Red over Original Green

Circa Final Quarter 19th Century: Measuring 9.75" tall with a top diameter of 9" and a bottom diameter of 9.75", this beautifully proportioned middle of the stack lidded firkin in beautiful old crazed in-use barn red over original windsor green paint decoration is a fantastic example of how authentic country farmhouse utilitarian primitives were repainted, refurbished, and used for many more years. Note that the top of the handle retains the original green, that the late 19th century round nails on the lid have replaced the brass tacks that were there originally, and that the split on the lid was there before the red paint was applied. Obviously, the thrifty owned decided to repair the firkin rather than toss it, and we're more than happy about this wonderful turn of events.
