Petite Mochaware Jug with Cat's Eye Decoration

Circa 1820-1840: Measuring a mere 5.25" in height, this early English mochaware jug made for the American market features two rows of cat's eye decoration and has survived in remarkable condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs and only a couple miniscule nicks on the bottom of the jug that are most probably in the making. Because mocha and related dipped and engine-turned wares were inexpensive and utilitarian in nature, they were heavily used and often sustained heavy damage; so it is a real treat to find a rare survivor like this one in such pristine condition.
