New Geneva PA 7" Tanware Pitcher

Circa 1880-1900: Tanware was manufactured in New Geneva, Pennsylvania from approximately 1880 until just after the turn of the 20th century and was sold mainly to tourists as souvenirs. Thus, great care was taken in making beautiful and elaborate hand-painted decoration on these pieces, and this, along with tanware's scant two-decade production run, is why Pennsylvania tanware ranks as some of the most highly prized and collectible antique American stoneware. This lovely seven inch pitcher boasts two large fuschias, two stripes, a row of dots, a drape decorated rim, and to top it off, decoration even around its handle. This truly excellent example of 19th century tanware is a rare find and is worthy of any fine collection of antique stoneware, country primitives, or early American antiques.
