Antique 7 1/2" Shaker Swing-Handled Berry Basket

Circa 1850-1880

We can attribute this lovely third quarter 19th century swing-handled basket to the Shakers because it is made completely of black ash, sports the classic Shaker single lashing around the rim, features a beautifully carved handle, and is simple in design, yet perfectly constructed and visually pleasing. At 7 1/2" in diameter and 5" in height (9 1/2" with handle extended), this early Shaker basket would have been consummately suited for berry picking. Condition is excellent with no breaks or repairs and only two minor and very old usage stains on the inside bottom of the basket. This wonderful antique American swing-handled Shaker basket exudes the tasteful simplicity of its maker and will be an excellent addition to any collection of quality antiques.
