Sponge Decorated Pennsylvania Tanware Pitcher
New Geneva, Pennsylvania tanware was only produced for the final two decades of the 19th century and very early intow the 20th and was sold mainly to tourists who visited the area. Since tanware was only made for a little over two decades and was produced in low numbers, tanware is hard to find and commands top dollar in the marketplace. This one gallon tanware pitcher with unsual sponged decoration has only one apology, a small chip on the the upper rim which does not detract from the piece's beauty. This lovely pitcher is very affordable and will make a fine addition to any collection of fine stoneware or Americana.
