Fell & Marsh New Orleans Two Gallon Cobalt Freehand Decorated ChurnCirca 1880s, Rare New Orleans Merchant ChurnIt is a real treat to find salt glaze advertising stoneware from the South, and this fine two gallon tabletop butter churn certainly fits the bill. The stamp on this cobalt decorated churn reads: "P. R. Fell & Marsh, Crockery & Glassware, Nos. 62 & 64 Graver St, New Orleans." "Graver" is misspelled, and should read "Gravier," a street that runs straight into New Orleans' historic French Quarter. Two gallon churns are desirable because of their petite size and low production numbers, and the scarce New Orleans advertising only adds to the churn's appeal. A nicely done double freehand double flower adorns the front of the churn, and the piece is in excellent condition, its only issue being one small chip on the back of the lip. Measuring just under 13" tall and 8 1/2" wide this wonderful stoneware butter churn is a fine piece of advertising stoneware at a very reasonable price.
