Historical Staffordshire American Scene: Boston State House

Flowers and Leaves Border

Circa 1814-1836: This version of the Boston State House depicts three cattle lolling in front of the State House grounds. Jeffrey B. Snider, in Historical Staffordshire: American Patriots & Views, reports of this scene that "the view presented was from the Boston Common toward the state house and dated from 1804" (80). This view showcases just how rural even our most important and populated American cities were in the early 19th century and provides a stunning glimpse into how much our cities have changed in the last two centuries. Measures 10" , please note two minor nicks to the plate ring on the back. Manufactured by John Rogers & Son.
