Historical Staffordshire American Scene: Harvard College

University Hall End View with Two People in Foreground

Circa 1814-1836: Stevenson and Williams actually produced two views of Boston's Harvard College, and this 10" dinner plate depicts University Hall end with a couple in the foreground touring the scenery. Harvard College, is of course, the heart of the Ivy League schools and is considered America's premier institution of higher learning. For centuries, students have flocked Harvard's campus in order to better themselves intellectually, and America's long fascination with this esteemed institution has made it one of our nation's intellectual cornerstones. A handsome oak leaf and acorn border frames the scene which is printed in a desirable dark blue. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs to this plate, and the transfer is super crisp and clear. This is a fabulous early 19th centruy depiction of one of America's first colleges and would be a great addition to any collection of historical Staffordshire, early ceramics, or American antiques.
