Canaryware Pitcher with Patriotic Americana Eagle and Classical Relief Figures

Late Federal Period

Circa1820: Measuring just over 5" in height and 6 1/2" in width, this superb canaryware pitcher is decorated with a silver lustreware border and cold painted with yellow leaf and vine decoration, but more importantly is lined with classical figures and a patriotic American eagle so typical in the late Federal period after the War of 1812 when British potteries were trying to market their wares to the fervantly nationalistic population of the fledgling United States. this pitcher is in excellent condition with only some minor flaws typical of this extremely scarce 190-year-old utilitarian pottery made for the American market. This is a fabulous piece of patriotic Americana and will be at home in any collection of early ceramics or patriotic items.
