Late Nineteenth Century: This large antique German Uncle Sam paper mache nodder is a fantastic find. The great long legs harken to the Palmer Cox Brownie figures of the era. Wonderful Red and White striped pants and a bright yellow vest with little black buttons, a fancy blue tail coat, white gloves and a tall top hat dress up this warm and whimsical depiction of our nation's longtime mascot. The delicately hand-painted facial highlights, pot-bellied form, and long, thin legs standing on a green base give Uncle Sam the demeanor of a jolly grandfather gazing over his nation's citizens from his grassy perch.
