Two Gallon Cobalt Decorated Water Cooler

Attributed to Richard Remmey, Phiadelphia, Pennsylvania

Circa 1870s: Stoneware water coolers are hard to find and are very desirable to collectors, and this highly decorated two gallon example from Philadelphia's Richard Remmey is handssome indeed. Measuring a hair over 14", this water cooler boasts profuse floral decoration on both sides and Remmey's trademark decoration under the handles. The lid, almost always missing, has a hairline, and there is glaze spalting throughout and one chip under the bunghole. However, this piece has a stunning visual presence and is the nicest early American stoneware water cooler we have yet to own.
