Antique New England Coke Porcelain Die Cut Shield Sign

Burdick Enamel Sign Co. Chicago, Boston & Balto

Circa Early 20th Century: Measuring a petite 15" wide by 16" tall, this unusual and eye catching blue and white die cut single sided porcelain New England Coke shield sign dates to the early 20th century and is a survivor of the Boston area gas and coal industry that fed the fires of the Industrial Revolution and paved the way for the Machine Age and beyond. Coke is a byproduct of coal and is used as a manufacturing fuel to reduce metal oxides to metal. Produced by the Burdick Enamel Sign Company (most probably at their Boston branch) this porcelain sign is in excellent as found condition with minor blemishes as photographed and will make a fine addition to any advanced advertising or petroliana collection.
